Ethos

Traditional publishing is hard to break into. It's getting better, but still very much set in its ways.
guava is the response to this rigidity. Created by the people, for the people, the goal is to truly reflect the creative landscape of diverse and up-and-coming creatives.
We wanted to create a home for voices that aren't often highlighted or acknowledged. With that in mind, we publish primarily poetry, but also nonfiction in our Substack and visual art in our issues. The goal is to uplift - our voices, our stories, our points of view in a tangible way.
If you're disabled, queer, BIPOC, or anyone who feels like they haven't had a chance to have their voice heard, then guava is the place for you. We can't wait to meet you.

Meet the Team
Editor in Chief
Hello! My name is Liv, I'm the founder and Editor in Chief for guava.
A little about me - I am a queer Cuban American poet based here in Edinburgh. My work has been published in places such as Gutter, Interpret, LIT Magazine, Outcrop Poetry, and more. Last year I published my self illustrated poetry zine, Florida Woman.
For the last year and a half, I was the Managing Editor for Outcrop Poetry, and currently am a reader for the online lit mag OnlyPoems.
My own work straddles the intersection of identity - what it means to belong, how it feels to be from nowhere, and where one fits in the 'in betweens'. I founded Guava to be a space dedicated to voices like (and unlike!) mine. It's a labor of love, and I am incredibly excited to watch this community grow.
xoxo,
Liv
